Our lives are poisoned by a large number of diseases. One of them is osteoarthritis of the knee joint. This disease most often manifests itself in women, mostly after the age of forty. Very often, the disease spoils the life of obese people, due to the increased load on the joints. But the disease can affect the body not only in adulthood. It very often develops in young athletes, as well as after injuries, which is why it is often confused with other knee diseases. To make sure you develop osteoarthritis of the knee, you need to determine the presence of certain symptoms.
Symptoms
Osteoarthritis of the knee joint is called gonarthrosis. Gonarthrosis takes place in three stages, each of which is characterized mainly by increased pain.
The diagnosis can be determined by the signs characteristic of the first phase:
- mild knee pain when walking;
- increased pain when descending or climbing stairs;
- severe pain in the morning after rest, which weakens over time;
- swelling of the knee, in severe cases synovitis is observed - accumulation of fluid in the joint sac, which subsequently fills the space behind the knee.
It is also worth noting that severe pain does not occur from a clear sky. They are preceded by a long period (usually several months) of mild knee pain.
The second stage of the development of osteoarthritis of the knee joint, in addition to increased pain, is characterized by the presence of painful squeaking and the inability to bend or bend the leg normally.
In the third phase, the pain becomes even stronger, which makes it impossible to fall asleep now. Now the knee can be bent only at an angle of 90 degrees, and it is very difficult to find a position in which it would not hurt. The blood circulation in the affected joint is disturbed, and its deformation begins.
It is quite difficult to treat osteoarthritis of the knee joint in the third stage of development. Therefore, when the first symptoms and signs are discovered, it is necessary to immediately look for ways to put the joints in order.
